A Maori chisel in a very good state of preservation was brought into the “Southland News” office the other day by Mr. James Mair, who unearthed it while ploughing near the racecourse recently. The chikel, which was formed of some greyish green stone, weighed Sib. and was 18in. in length. Oblong in shape, with a handle at one end, it gave evidence of very painstaking workmanship. Mr. Mair also discovered another chisel about half the size and a square block of sandstone, evidently used for sharpening them.
