UNIQUE GOOD DEED

VALUABLE HELP IN MOTOR ACCIDENT SCOUT WHO WAS PREPARED Dominion Special Service. Nelson, December 30. A Sea Scout sprang into the gap in an emergency created by a motor accident on Sunday, driving an injured boy to hospital, and then giving a portion of his blood for the child. As the result of a head-on collision on a sharp bend on the Hope Saddle yesterday afternoon, Colin Neale, aged 7, son of Mr. E. R. Neale, the wellknown cricketer, sustained a large cut on the throat from a splintered windscreen. Mr. Neale and his family were returning from Lake Rotoroa, and Mr. J. W. Marris, of Nelson, was driving the other car.

The impact was a very slight one and it was thought no damage had been done until it was found that a piece of glass from the windscreen had been loosened by the impact, and had hit the boy on the throat. The wound bled profusely, and it became evident that medical aid would have to be secured at the earliest possible moment. H. Scoltoek, a Sea Scout, who arrived on the scene of the accident, drove Mrs. Neale with the injured child to the hospital at all possible speed. The loss of blood had been so great that blood transfusion was necessary, and Scoltodk, who had previously acted in this capacity, and whose blood had therefore been previously tested, immediately volunteered again, and on arrival at the hospital the transfusion took place without loss of time. The injured boy had a good night, and to-day was progressing favourably.
