Ex-Kaiser’s Monument to Naval Lieutenant.—In our Random Notes column last week we published the story of an incident that occurred some years ago on board the ex-Kaiser’s yacht, Hohenzollern. The ex-Kaiser, in frolicksome mood after a convivial party below, came up on deck and insisted on taking the wheel from the helmsman, First-Lieutenant von Hahnke. Sensible of his responsibilities, the lieutenant refused to relinquish control and blows were exchanged, the lieutenant subsequently committing suicide. In due course the ex-Kaiser caused a monument to be erected at the spot Lieutenant Hahnke is believed to have died. We are indebted to a lady reader for the photograph of the monument reproduced above.
