VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN GOVERNMENT TAX REDUCTIONS (Rec. December 29, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, December 28. Following upon M. Tardieu’s exposition of his foreign policy, the Chamber of Deputies voted confidence in the Government by 342 votes to 17. The result is that MM. Tardieu and Briand will go to The Hague and London Conferences with the full authority of the Chamber. The Commission of Finances has accepted the Government’s figure of nine millions sterling of tax reductions, making a total relief for the coming year of twenty-two millions. The chief new beneficiaries will be families to the extent of two millions, salaried taxpayers one million, luxury tax £1,300,000, small tradesmen £1,200,000, amusement tax £250,000.
