For some years past motorists on the Paekakariki and Paraparaumu beaches have been in the habit of racing their cars up and down the sands. This has been a source of considerable annoyance to holiday-makers, and is in itself, a great danger to children, and other pedestrians. It is pleasing to record that this year the authorities concerned are determined to put an end to this “skylarking” on the beaches, and action will be taken by the police to keep motor vehicles off the sands. As the result of falling down some steps al 401 Willis Street shortly before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Mrs. D. Baldman, of 401 Barbados Street, Christchurch, was removed to the Public Hospital by the Free Ambulance yesterday morning suffering from a probable fracture of the left leg and ankle.
