BOYS AND PIANO PLAYING
The statement credited to Mr. F. M. Renner, principal of Rongotai College, that the piano is a selfish instrument for boys, and that they should, learn some instrument other than the piano, is combated by “J,” who urges that every boy should learn this instrument. The piano he states, is not difficult to learn, and should be encouraged amongst boys instead of being discouraged. The writer, as one who has played the .piano for over 40 years, stresses the value he has found it in entertaining at home and at social gatherings, and in business life. The letter concludes: “I am not connected with any piano or music establishment, but can prove beyond any doubt that during my business career the fact that I was able to entertain on the piano has been the cause of my securing considerable business from clients. On one occasion I was calling on farmers for two years, and after entertaining the household and their friends, we would talk about the business I was interested in, with the definite result that I did big business, still another proof that the piano should be enouraged amongst boys.
