ORCHARDISTS’ TOUR

NELSON PARTY TO VISIT NORTH ISLAND A party of Nelson orchardists 'Will make a tour of the North Island early in the New Year. The trip will commence on January 6, when the party will leave Nelson for Wellington. Cars will take the orchardists over the Riinutakas to Greytown. The orchards in the Wairarapa will be inspected, after which the journey will be continued to Dannevirke. Hastings will be the next place, of call, and two days .vill be spent in this Hawke’s Bay fruit centre. Proceeding to Rotorua, via Taupo, the party will visit the Arapuni dam. Leaving there the party will go to Hamilton, and if time permits will-visit the Government farm at Ruakura. A night at Hamilton, then the party will proceed on io Waitomo Caves, and to Te Kuiti, through the King Country, on to the West Coast to Awakino, and down the coast to New Plymouth. Leaving New Plymouth the party will traverse ‘ the road round Mount Egmont, through Manaia, Stratford, Hawera, and many small towns, till Wanganui is reached, where a stop will be made. From Wanganui to Wellington will be via Foxton.

It is intended to make the tour one of educational value, as well as one which incorporates sight-seeing. To some Nelson orchardists fireblight is. only a name; if they undertake this tour they will be able to see for themselves what fireblight in an orchard really means.
