HUTT BY-ELECTION

NO CHANGE IN FIGURES YET OFFICIAL COUNT TO-DAY It is improbable that the final result of the Hutt by-election will be announced before Saturday or Monday. The scrutiny of the roll took place yesterday, and the official count of the ballot papers will be commenced today. There has been no change in the figures since publication yesterday morning. There were 16.371 electors on the roll, and approximately 12,510 votes (including those of absentees and those which were informal) were cast. Thus some 3860 electors did not vote. There were 55 Informal votes, and the 657 votes remaining to be counted comprise 472 absentee votes, 183 postal votes, and two seamen’s votes. It is possible that a few other absentee votes may also, come to hand. At the general election last year there were 848 absentee, postal and seamen’s votes, of which Mr. Wilford received 532 and Mr. Nash 316. The state of parties in the House of Representatives if Mr. Nash is declared elected will be: — Reform 28 United 27 Labour i 20 Independents /4 Country Party 1
