CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARDS COST EFFECT OF ALTERATIONS SITE TO REVERT TO STRAITS SETTLEMENTS (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, November 27. Mr. A. V. Alexander, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated in the House of Commons that the contributions promised by the Malay States towards the cost of the Singapore Base were conditional upon the proposals remaining unaltered. The land was to revert to the Straits Settlements Government in the event of any alteration regarding the Base, and the Admiralty was to pay its market value. The contributions promised by New Zealand and Hong Kong were subject to no express conditions except the implied condition that the money was to be spent on the development of the Base.
