SLEDGING PARTY

GEOLOGISTS MAKING FASTER PROGRESS CHANGEABLE WEATHER AT LITTLE AMERICA (By Russell Owen.—Special to "New York Times.”) Bay of Whales, November 26. Dr. Gould’s geological sledging party is making better time over the last part of the trip to the Queen Maud Mountains. They have lighter loads, and the sight of the mountains ahead will encourage them. Last night they camped at Depot No. 6, which is 83 degrees 25 minutes south latitude. Dr. Gould reported that they had had no sun for the last seventy-five miles of the journey, but with the wind behind them and a smoother surface they made eighteen miles that day. In Little America we are having very uncertain weather conditions. The sky is still overcast and the wind shifting all round the compass. There have been fog and mist, making such peculiar atmospheric conditions that the men building a beacon for surveying purposes were unable to see the outlines of the snowblocks they held in their hand.
