DEATH OF A HERO

FAMILY RESCUED FROM FLOOD Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, November 28. The death occurred nt Sandy Hook, Wanganui, to-day of William Henry Perrin, who occupied a hut by the river, lie was found unconscious by Mr. AV. D. Prestop and died before the ambulance arrived. Among his effects was found a medal given to him by Rangitikei people in recognition of his gallantry in saving Mrs. Daniels and family when the Rangitikei River was in Hood in 1597 and Mrs. Daniels’ two-storied house was ■ surrounded by water. The late Mr. Perrin at risk to himself procured a boat, and rescued the whole family. Many members of picnic parties to Sandy Hook will remember him and the billies he boiled for them for tea. His relatives are supposed to be at Lower Hutt or Petone.
