SMOKE NUISANCE

Sir, —Having read the various opinions ibout the Wellington Hospital being the best-appointed, etc., may I ask those members who passed those remarks did they cast their eyes to the large chimneys which pour smoke, soot, etc., into the various wards of the above institution. As fresh air is one of the main essentials in tbe restoration of the sick, cannot something be done to abate the above nuisance. I understand that there is a by-law that factory chimneys have to be a certain height to avoid the smoke nuisance.—l am, etc., PRO BONO PUBLICO. Wellington, November 27.
