BOXING

FOUL AWARDED AGAINST HAY THOMAS THROWN ON MAT A LIVELY CONTEST By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, November 26. The professional welter boxing contest between Artie Hay, Hastings, New Zealand champion (list.), and Billy Thomas, Wales (lOst. 131b.~), to-night ended in the eleventh round, Hay being disqualified for throwing his opponent to the mat. Thomas landed heavily on the back of his head. It w-as a lively contest, Hay being well ahead on points at the time of the foul. Thomas was down three times in the ninth for counts of four, seven and seven. Sarron, the American feather-weight, will make his first appearance in the Dominion at the Town Hall on Monday next, when his opponent will be Jack Jones, the ex-feather and light-weight champion of Wales, who has been visiting Australia, during which time he has proved himself a high-class performer. Jones will have an advantage in weight of approximately eight pounds, and being a tall and evasive boxer, may prove a hard nut for the American to handle. In Sarron patrons will see a boxer who is very close to world’s championship forjn, and one who has a reputation of being a pure fighter who gives his opponent no rest from the opening round. The next appearance of Sarron will be against Grime on December 17. Intending patrons at next Monday’s tournament should note the advertised arrangement for preferential booking, under which holders of reserved seats for Monday’s tournament will be entitled to book the same seats for the following contest. The plan opens this morning at 10 o'clock.
