OBJECTIVE NEARLY REACHED CLOSE ON £250 IN HAND Three people—the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr. b. Bairchilil). the city librarian (Mr. J. Norrie), and a “Dominion” reporter were present at a meeting culled last night of the committee interested tn the projec t o est.ib lish a commercial reference libiiuy in Wellington. A number of apologies tor non-attendance, however, were received. A return was presented by Mi. tanchild showing that the donations received or promised totalled £241/17/-. The minimum required to establish the library is £3OO, but the City Council has inti mated that if £250 is raised it will contribute the other £5O. and accept responsibility for the future maintenance of the library. Just over £S is now required to make up the sum. and no anticipated in raising this amount It is not likely that the committee will mppf as a committee, but that tne next step will be a deputation to the Libraries Committee of the City Council to ask that action be taken to give effect to the proposal.
