IRISH FREE STATE

DECLARATION REGARDING PRIVY COUNCIL QUESTIONS IN HOUSE OF COMMONS (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Rec. November 26, 7 p.m.) London, November 25. Several questions were addressed to the Prime Minister in the House of Commons on the subject of the recent declaration of the Irish Free State Parliament regarding appeals to the Privy Council. Mr. MacDonald said he had not received any communication on the subject from the Free State. The Marquess of Hartington, Sir Kingsley Wood, Sir William Davison, and Sir Austen Chamberlain pressed the view that the Free State had raised an Important constitutional point by the threat to legislate to prevent Privy Council judgments operating in Ireland, which would be a breach of the Irish Free State Constitution Act. Commander Kenworthy (Lab.) asked: Did not the Speaker recently rule that matters within the competence,of the Dominions’ Parliaments should not be discussed in the British Parliament? The Speaker said he was not prepared on the spur of the moment to give a ruling on the constitutional point raised.
