WORK OF ART IN SOAP

DEPARTMENT’S STRANGE REPLY By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, November 26. The Napier Thirty Thousand Club sought permission to conduct an art union with a Maori head in gold as first prize. The Department refused permission, and Mr. W. E. Barnard. M.P., supporting the request, later wrote and said he had seen a model of the head in soap, and thought it certainly was a work of art. The Department wrote back. “All right; raffle the model in soap.”
