BOWLS

TESTING IN MANAWATU. Palmerston North, November 26. For some time past the Mannwat.u Bowling Club has endeavoured to get Palmerston North declared a bowl-testing centre, but according to a communication received by the president, Mr. J. 11. Nash, M.P., the application cannot be entertained this year. The letter from the Dominion Bowling A.’Noeiation is as follows: —“At the annual meeting <jf the council of my association in l‘J2B the following resolution was passed: ’That in future no centre be constituted a bowl-testing centre until it has provided itself witli a suitable plant and has the services of a competent tester, thoroughly instructed in the use of the rail to the satisfaction of the association’s official tester, and that existing testing centres shall not, in future, engage a tester unless he js thoroughly qualified and competent to use tiie rail to the satisfaction of the association’s official tester.’ In view of the above it would be impossible to do anything this year. The official bowl tester of my association is Mr. W, A. Scott, of Dunedin, who has occupied the position for many years. Mr. Fairway. I titink. has only recently been appointed tester for the Wellington Centre, and his knowledge of the use of the testing rail and appliances must be limited.”
