Vice-Regal. His Excellency the Governor-General (Sir "Charles Fergusson) will attend the Royal Show, to be held at Invercargill, on December 10 and 11. He will be entertained at an official luncheon at noon on December 10, and will open the show at 1.30 o’clock that afternoon. The Postmaster-General (Hon. J. B. Donald) will return to Wellington this morning. The Minister of Lands (Hon. G. W. Forbes) left last night for Culverden, in order to open the new Amuri County Council Chambers. He will remain in his electorate for a few days, and return to Wellington next Tuesday morning. The Minister of Education (Hon. H. Atmore) will arrive from Palmerston North on Saturday evening, and proceed south immediately by the ferry steamer. Sir Alexander Roberts has been reappointtd. tlie Lower Hutt Borough Council’s representative on the City and Suburban Highways Board. Mr. E. W. Hughes has resigned his position as chemist to the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., and has accepted an appointment in Melbourne. Professor T. 11. Hunter, Vice-Chan-cellor of the University of New Zealand, who has been on a visit to Dunedin, will return home to-day. Mr. P. J. O’Regan, who has been visiting Dunedin and Christchurch, returned to Wellington yesterday morning.

Mr. J. Hyams, of Wellington, will leave Auckland for Sydney by the Niagara next week.

The congregation of the Whangarei Presbyterian Church decided unanimously to extend a call to the Rev. William Elliott. Knox Church, Wanganui, states a Press Association telegram.

Archbishop Redwood, of Wellington, will leave Christchurch to-day for Timaru, where he will attend the jubilee of the introduction of nuns to that town. It was the Archbishop (then a Bishop) who welcomed the first nuns to Timaru fifty years ago. The death of Mi'. George Syme, sen., occurred at his residence at Hawera yesterday morning, states a Press Association telegram. He was 93 yyars of age and was one of the pioneer settlers of Hawera. For the greater pari of his 54 years’ residence in the town he was closely identified with its growth. In 1889 he acquired the Egmont Sash and Door Factory and timber yards, and developed the big business which for many years has been associated with Hawera and the Syme family.

The death is reported from Auckland of the Rev. E. C. Budd, who foi more than 21 years acted as chaplain to Hu* Mount Eden Prison. Auckland Hospital, and' Mental Hospital.
