KIRKCALDIE AND STAINS, LTD.

WELCOME HOME TO MANAGING DIRECTOR. On Monday night about 300 of the staff of Kirkealdie and Stains Ltd. assembled in th_C thain tearoom to welcome Mr. C. F. Smith (managing director) and his wife and daughter, who have just returned from a nine months’ trip abroad. The entertainment took the form of a reception from 6 p.m. to 10 p.in., and began with refreshments, followed by toasts, an outline of Mr. Smith’s travels, and concert items. Mr. Sidney Kirkcaldic (chairman of directors) presided. Mrs. John Kirkealdie, Mr. Keith Kirkealdie (director) and Mrs. Keith. Kirkealdie, and Mr. S. H. Kirkealdie were present. Before proceedings began a big iced cake was brougth in by the chef (Mr. Hughes) and placed before the chairman for presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Smith, who hail celebrated their silver wedding in London in May last. After the toast of "The King” had been honoured, “Our Guest” was proposed by Mr. Sidney Kirkealdie on behalf of the firm and the staff. Mr. Keith Kirkealdie said that on behalf of himself and family he desired most sincerely to tender his best wishes to Mr.. Mrs., and Miss Smith for a very happy return home. Mr. E. J. Archibald (secretary to Kirkealdie and Stains Ltd.) also expressed his deep personal pleasure at the return of Mr. Smith.

In proposing the toast of “The Firm” Mr. J.. 11. Burgoyne-Thomas referred to the part that Kirkealdie and Stains, as represented by Mr. Sidney Kirkealdie, had plnyod in connection with the equipment of the New Zealand troops during the war.
