The Minister of Lands (Hon. G. W. Forbes) returned last evening from a visit to Marton. To-night he will leave for the South to officially open the new Oust (North Canterbury) Post Office to-morrow. The Commissioner of State Forests (Hon. W. B. Taverner), and the Director of Forestry (Mr. E. Phillips Tinner), who are at present in Rotorua, inspecting the plantations there, are expected back in Wellington at the end of this week, or the beginning of next week. Mr. Justice Ostler will return to Wellington to-day from Napier and Gisborne. The Leader of the Opposition (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) spent the week-end in Wellington, and returned to the North by last night's express. Archbishop Redwood spent the weekend in Christchurch. Captain E. P. O. Boyle. M.V.0.. Military Secretary to His Excellency the Governor-General, was a passenger to the North by last night’s Limited express. Mr. Egerton Lowe, who has been conducting examinations in Wellington for Trinity College of Music, London, left for Auckland by last nights Limited express. _ Canon P. James, Vicar of St. Dauls Pro-Cathedral, left Wellington last night for Lyttelton. To-day Canon James will address at Christchurch a preliminary meeting in connection with the New Zealand Church Congress,-to be held in Christchurch in 1931. The first New' Zealand Church Congress was held in 1923. Canon James is expected back in Wellington on Thursday morning. Mr. H. H. Sterling, General Manager of Railways, returned to Wellington from the north yesterday. Mr. G. G. Stewart (Publicity Branch) and Mr. D. Rodie (commercial manager) also returned to Wellington. Mr. E. W. Armstrong, the English architect, whose design for the Christchurch Art Gallery was accepted, and who is now in Rangoon, has advised that he will visit Christchurch early in the New’ Year. Dr. E. Marsden, secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, lias- returned to Wellington. He has been in Hastings and Palmerston North on departmental business, more especially in connection with the research carried on by the English scientists in respect to frozen meat.

Wing-Commander S. Grant Dalton, Director of Air Services, left for Christchurch by the ferry steamer last night. He will fly from Sockburn to Dunedin for the purpose of conferring with the Otago Aero Club in respect to the preparation of the aerodrome at Green Island, installation of equipment, and the appointment of a pilot-instructor and'ground engineer. Mr. M. Dennehy, Assistant General Manager of Railways, will leave for New Plymouth this morning.

Mr. D. Hebenton has returned to Welliugton after a trip abroad. Besides visiting relatives in England and Scotland, Mr. Hebenton touted in Sweden, Germany, France and Belgium. Mr. Hebenton was at Niagara Falls when Mr. Ramsay MacDonald visited there, and the special illumination of the falls that night'was wonderful. Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver struck him as showing remarkable growth, and they seemed quick and prosperous. “It was surprising the number of people in Canada.” added Mr. Hebenton, “who when they knew I came from New Zealand, said. ‘Tell the New Zealand farmers to keep up the present high quality of their butter, as we enjoy it very much.’ ”
