FROM FAR AND NEAR Mails Reach London. —The Postal authorities have received advice that mails which left Auckland on October 22 per R.M.S. Niagara, via Vancouver, arrived in London on November 23. Killed in Motor Accident.—At the inquest on Hugh Carlyle Black, who was killed in a motoring accident at Ohura on Friday, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Sentences on “White Crusaders.”— After a fortnight’s trial at Voronesh on. charges of committing terroristic incendiary acts, sixteen “White Crusaders” were sentenced to death and twentythree to imprisonment, states a Press Association message from Moscow.

Bones in Suitcase Mystery.—A Press Association message from London says the mystery of the charred bones in a suitcase has died down. The “Daily Telegraph” understands that, as the result of Scotland Yard’s report, there will probably be Police Court proceedings at Bow Street, arising out of the discovery of the bones.

Man’s Body Found.—The dead body of Archibald Claude Moore, a hospital patient, who was being treated for nerve trouble, was found in Grafton Gully at Auckland. He was middle aged, and a married man.—Press Assn.

Safe Dynamited.—Burglars removed an iron safe from a hotel at Summerhill, states a Press Association message from Sydney. They dynamited it in the backyard, and extracted £7OO. No one was disturbed by the explosion.

Poisoning Tragedy.—A poisoning tragedy is reported from a Sydney hotel. Desmond Gore and Mary Elsley were found in a dying condition, but were dead before they reached hospital. The police were unable to say whether a death pact was entered into or whether the girl was murdered and the man committed suicide. —Press Assn.

Tomb of Alexander the Great.— The Cairo correspondent of the London “Daily Express” states that Mr. Howard Carter, after Tutankhamen’s tomb has been finally cleared, is undertaking excavations to discover the tomb of Alexander the Great, who is reputed to be buried at Alexandria in a golden coffin. —Press Association.

Woman’s Body Found in Sea.—A Press Association message from _ Melbourne says the police are investigating the finding of a woman’s body in the sea at St. Kilda, believed to be that of Mrs. Biggs, of South Africa. The woman’s husband is thought to have left Sydney for New Zealand on Thursday. Arrangements have been made with the New Zealand police to interview him on his .arrival.

Intoxicated Lorry Driver.—James Lawless, a coal carrier, aged 61, on a charge of being drunk while in charge of a lorry, was fined £2O and his license was cancelled for two years (states a Press Association message from Hamilton). The Magistrate. Mr. Wyvern Wilson, SAL, remarked that the public had to be protected. It was his duty to see that this type of man was kept off the road.
