About 10 p.m. in one of Auckland s suburbs a constable on duty was advised that a man was assaulting his wife further along the street. When the constable reached the scene of hostilities, the husband made a serious accusation against his wife, who replied in anything but modest terms. In support of her vehement pronouncement she delivered a terrific blow on her husband’s jaw. and he fell backwards and struck his head heavily on the concrete. The man in blue pointed out to the hysterical witc that she would have to be arrested—a remark that, together with the sight of her prostrate husband, had a sobering cltect.
