ATLANTIC CABLES
DAMAGE BY EARTHQUAKE (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, November 21. Measures are being. taken to repair the trans-Atlantic cables broken or otherwise damaged by the earthquake under the North Atlantic on Monday afternoon. There are about 20 cables between Britain and North America, and about half these were affected. Communication Ims been maintained without serious delay by alternative cable companies’ repair ships arrived yesterday in the area of damage, situated about 300 miles off the Nova Scotia coast. This is stated to be the first time in history the Atlantic cables have suffered through earthquake. A message from the liner Olympic yesterday reported that she felt shock when 312 miles off Cape Race. The ship sliuddored. but no damage was done.
