POLA NEGRI
AWAITING DIVORCE IN PARIS (Rec. November 17, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, November 16. Clad in black from head to foot, Pola Negri broke down and wept copiously in the arms of newspapermen at Havre, where she disembarked from America. Between sobs she said: “It is sad to return to a land where the only happiness is to await divorce, but thank God divorce exists.” There was another outburst of grief and then: “I loved Serge greatly and still do.” Pola then assumed a dramatic attitude and facing the newspapermen she hissed: “Ail are selfish. Take everything; give nothing.” Still sobbing Pola entered an expensive motor-car and drove off. » Prince Serge was under no illusions when questioned. He said: "I expect a divorce shortly. The sooner the better.”
