Sails only will be used by the Byrd Expedition s)iip City of New York in the voyage from Dunedin to the Ice Barrier next month. Every inch of the Vessel will be filled with coal for the Byrd Expedition, aiid the supplies will be conserved by converting the vessel temporarily into a sailing ship. . . ’ Wanton vandalism is again rampant in the beautiful Meeting of the Waters reserve near New Plymouth, and the vegetation is suffering badly (says the “News”). Limbs of trees arc lying about which have been cut or broken off, while a number of tree ferns have been broken off close to the ground, and an examination of fronds strewn about parts of the reserve shows that some of them have been cut front the tree ferns. Much of the undergrowth has been destroyed, and there is evidence which leads to the assumption that yoting trees are being removed.
