BAN ON MINISTERS
ANGLO-CATHOLICS REPUDIATE BISHOP’S AUTHORITY USE OF FORBIDDEN FORM OF RESERVATION FIRST SYNODICAL ACTION ON SUCH GROUNDS (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (“Times" Cables.) (Rec. November 1, 7.40 p.m.) London, October 31. “I hereby pronounce that our three brethren, by repudiating my authority, set themselves outside our ministerial fellowship, and must there remain until by obedience they are again welcomed thereinto,” said the Bishop of Liverpool in imposing the solemn ban to which Synod had agreed by 246 votes to 39. The clergy concerned are AngloCatholics, the Revs. Cyril Wilkins, Derham Marshall, and Arthur Wykes, all of Liverpool, who used the forbidden form of reservation. When the Bishop, demanded the abandonment of the service, which is only applicable to the sick, they replied that on conscientious grounds they were unable to accept his regulation. The ban is the first Synodical action on such grounds. The clergy thus banned attended Synod, the Rev. C. Wilkins protesting that the ban was illegal.
