The Canterbury College Board of ' Governors has decided that Monsieur Valery Larbaud, of Paris, who was the first to translate Samuel Butler’s “Erewhon” inot the French language, be sincerely thanked for presenting to the Canterbury Public Library his bound manuscript copy of the translated work. “Bv these figures the cows never seem to die,” said Mr. Justice Adams in the Compensation Court at Christchurch during the hearing of a claim. “We used to be told,” he added, “that donkeys never died?” Finally the witness said the normal milking life of a cow was twelve years.
