The trial of Leslie Gordon Fraser on a charge of carnally knowing a . girl at Pet one. was held before the Chief Justice (Hon. DI. Myers), in the Supreme Court, yesterday. Dlr. P. S. K. Dfacassey prosecuted, and accused was represented by Dlr. t). R. Barrett. After,a short retirement, the jury brought in a verdict of guilty. Prisoner was remanded until Monday for sentence. A remarkably fortunate escape from drowning was experienced by three young men, residents of Waihi, when a boat from which they were fishing at M aihi beach was caught in a sudden storm and nearly capsized. The boat was fitted with an outboard motor, and when the squall arose the frail craft was headed at full speed for the beach. It was overtaken by the heavy rollers, however, and tossed about like a cork. Watchers on the shore had given up all hope of the fishermen reaching land safely when, by a remarkable stroke of fortune, an incoming roller caught up the boat and, with astonishing speed, carried it to the beach and flung it ashore high and dry.
