THE FIGHT AGAINST TUBERCULOSIS

CANTERBURY ACTION HOSPITAL BOARDS AMALGAMATE Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, October 30. Plans for the amalgamation of hospital boards in the South Island in the districts north of the Rakala River were approved to-day by delegates of the boards interested who met in conference in Christchurch. The delegates will report to their respective boards, and if the scheme is accepted, as the delegates intimated very probably would be the case, several boards will share in the cost of interest charges and maintenance of the Cashmere Sanatoria and the people in their districts will be given equal chances of treatment with people In North Canterbury. The North Canterbury board will retain control of the .institution, which remains its own property, but dispensaries will be established in the districts of the other boards interested at the expense of those boards and tuberculosis experts from North Canterbury will pay regular visits to these dispensaries for the examination of cases at the expense of the boards whose districts they visit.

• Delegates to-day expressed agreement with and great pleasure at the action of the North Canterbury board in formulating the scheme which was discussed. It was agreed that the conference was a big step forward tn tho movement to further reduce the death rate from tuberculosis in the Dominion.
