He was very glad to.note that the Olympic games were not lost sight ot. ne Eht that the body con filing Olympic representatives should be tormea by men who really knew something about athletes, and were therefore <l uallfied make the proper selection. This booy should decide what support should be given to representatives at the Games, having regard solely to the ability to present this country » u . cc ® ss f”M.JpiX® pleasing to note that interest g oared rowing was increasing in New Zea land and progress m that direction naa been made by all the affiliated associations. It w“si* very gratifying to oarsmen that the daylight-saving measure had been permanently adopted. Championships Allocated to Marlborough. The allocation of championships and interprovincial eights was then proceeded with. The championship regatta wa ? allotted to Marlborough. Mr. Hale said that his association (ISJarlborough) recognised February .as being the most suitable month for the holding °f the regatta, and he suggested February 12 to as tei Mr?E.Atones, in making application on behalf of Auckland for the holding of the champion “eights there, said that the only reason that tion was tentative was that they would like to see at least four cent J®?. rep sented. - They proposed to hold the events this year over a new course on the Whau River. There was a fine natural grandstand from which the races could be reviewed. “We are here to ap ply for the race,” he said, but we do not want the race with only one or two C °The t Wanganui delegate supported the Auckland application. Mr. H. 11. McLean (Wellington) thought that the eights championships should be given to Wellington. They could appreciate the application that Auckland had made, but it was absolutely necessary that they should have this event on a course where every crew could take part, and it should be held on a course on which the race had been previously rowed. The majority of regattas that had been held on the Korokoro course had been quite satisfactory. The chairman thought that there was one aspect which they had all overlooked, and that was the matter of finance. Rowing depended more on old members in this direction than upon the young ones. Personally he would like the championships to be held in Auckland, but there were scores and scores_ ot people who would go to see the eightoared races if held in Wellington; if held elsewhere they would be purely local. “Eights” to be Rowed at Auckland. On a division being taken, the allocation went to Auckland by a majority ot two votes. It was stated that there would probably be four or five entrants, Wanganui, Otago, and Marlborough having decided definitely, and Wellington and Canterbury being undecided. - A motion moved by the Wanganui Association, “That rule 12 be amended to provide for annual levy of Is., instead of 2s. as at present,” was not carried. Alterations to Rules. The Auckland Association moved the following addition to the rule which now calls on the regatta committee to provide the necessary weighing machine when weighing crews which are restricted to weight: “Except in cases where the local association rules provide for associatipn scales to be used.” This motion was carried. “That the council set aside a substantial sum each year to defray the expenses of the crews visiting Australia, moved by the Wanganui Association, was defeated. . , The following motions were carried without comment: — . . “That four substitutes be allowed in eight-oared crews.” “That the New Zealand Association jersey be black with a silver fern worked on left breast ; and “That four-oared championship races be * rowed in best-and-best boats with coxswains, and the other championship races in best-and-best boats without coxswains.”
