.PURCHASES WITHIN EMPIRE. The amou”t expended on the purchase of stores and material for the Railway Department for the year ended March 31 last was £2,487,365, states the annual report of the General Manager of Railways (Mr. H. H. Sterling), presented to Parliament yesterday. Of that figure purchases within the Empire amounted to the lug sum of £2,434,077. t*
