TAXES AND ESTIMATES THE WEEK’S PROGRAMME According to present arrangements the House of Representatives will again this week consider the Government’s taxation proposals during the committee stage of the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill and the second reading of the Annual Taxing Bill, which contains the schedule of payments under the super land tax provision. It Is intended ‘to deal to-day with further classes of the Estimates. Thir-ty-one items remain to be disposed of, the most important of them being the proposed appropriation relative to the Education, Customs, Labour and External Affairs Department. Under any one of the headings mentioned members will have ample opportunity to discuss questions of moment, such as the Hon. H. Atmdre’s delay in announcing his education policy, the Government’s action in doubling the primage duty, the relief of unemployment, and the Samoan situation. No information was available yesterday as to the particular items scheduled for consideration to-day. To-morrow the Railways Statement will be presented, and debate on it will be reserved until Friday, when it is proposed to take the Railway Estimates. The entire sitting on Friday will, as in the past, be devoted to debate on the various matters arising out of railway expenditure. It is anticipated that further consideration will be given the taxing Bills to-morrow and that on Thursday the Land Laws Amendment Bill will be brought forward for second reading. An interesting week’s deliberations is In prospect.
