LATE MR. KITCHING
LARGE ATTENDANCE AT FUNERAL.
A large and representtive gathering of those engaged in shipping and mercantile business attended the funeral of the late Mr. Arthur H. Kitching, of the staff of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, which proceeded from his late residence, No. 10 Rimu Road, Kelburn, to Karori cemetery. Over sixty motor-cars comprised the cortege. The Rev. G. F. Petrie, of St. Michael’s, Kelburn, officiated at the. graveside. The late Mr. Kitching. being a member of the Freemasons’ Waterloo Lodge, the service of the craft was conducted by Worshipful Master A. J. W. Hatch and Mr. W. C. Robinson, secretary of the lodge. The pall-bearers were Messrs. J. P. Hooper. P. N. Jeffreys, W. Kennedy, S. Neal, H. Miller, and A. D. Bayfield. The chief mourners were Mr. Maurice Kitching (son of the late Mr. Kitching) and Messrs. De Spong (2) (father-in-law and brother-in-law of deceased). Among those present were Mr. N. E. C. Gregory (manager of the C. and D. Line), and all the members of the staff, Messrs. J. Neale and E. C. Adams (Union Company), Messrs. E. V. Beran and F. A. Turner (Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company), Messrs. ■L. Joues and Captain Olphert (N.Z. Shipping Company), Mr. A. D. Bayfield (Federal Company), Mr. N. R. Muir (Canterbury S,S. Company). Mr. J. P. Hooper (Messrs. T. and W. Young), Mr. N. McLean (Messrs. Huddart, Parker), Mr. 'W. Rothwell (Messrs. Dalgety and Co.). Mr. V. Waters (Messrs. Levin and Co.), Mr. B. O. Binnie (Messrs. Gardiner, Binnie, and Halliburton), Mr. C. M. Howard (Messrs. Johnston and Co.), Captain S. Holm (Holm Shipping Company), Mr. W Luke (Geo. H. Seales Company). Messrs. W. M. Luke and R. T. Boyes (Canadian National Steamships), Mr. B. W. Millier (Marine Department) Captain J. Dawson (harbourmaster), and Captain F: A. Macindoe (secretary of the Merchant Service Guild). There were elaborate wreaths, prominent among which was that of a large floral representation of the crest of Lloyds, which department of the C. and D Line the late Mr. Kitching controlled. Messrs. D. Williamson and W. E Fuller, who are retiring from the staff of Messrs. Levin and Co., were the re cipients of- purses of sovereigns from the company’s employees at a gathering yesterday afternoon. The presentations were made by Mr. R. L. Goldfinch (in charge of the hemp department), on behalf of his colleagues, and he conveyed the appreciation and good wishes of the staff.
