GOODS STOLEN AT HAWERA. By Telegraph.—Press Association. New Plymouth, August 30. This morning in the Supreme Court Reginald Eugene Seager, who pleaded guilty to four charges of breaking and entering and theft from business places in Hawera, and stealing goods and money valued at £2O, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. The Chief Justice said that such cases were rife' not only in this district but all over the country. The Courts must do their best to put them down. CASES AT HAMILTON. By Telegraph—Prs«s Association. Hamilton, August 30. Joscpii AV. J. Ross and Alfred Edward Nixon, both aged 22 years, were acquitted in the Supreme Court on a charge of breaking and entering and theft of a table knife and a corkscrew valued at Is. It was alleged that the theft occurred at Taringamoto, near Tautnarunui. After hearing the evidence for the prosecution Mr. Justice Ostler instructed the jury that the evidence was too frail for a conviction.
Walter Leslie Cusack, who with Clifford Ernest Corrin was charged with drawing up a false document, was acquitted. Corrin having admitted that he wrote the letter ostensibly signed by the postmaster at Tokirima at Cusack’s dictation.
