RAILWAY FREIGHTS
REDUCTIONS IN THE WAIKATO. By Telegraph--Press Association. Hamilton, August 30. Apparently in an effort to meet the growing competition of motor transport, the Railway Department announces that considerable reductions are to be made in freights shortly between Auckland and the Waikato towns. In many instances the reductions will exceed £1 a ton. In addition the Department is instituting free delivery to Hamilton and Cambridge,, what is known as the “small lots scale being abolished. This means a reduction of about 50 per cent, in this department. Officials from the bead office are now in Hamilton arranging the new schedule of freight rates.
