CAUTIONARY TALES.
Perhaps you won’t believe me when I tell this story true; . Beware, my dears, lest some day it will happen to you too: Joseph once was handsome — his mother’s pride and joy— Aunts and uncles only had their doubts about this boy, For he had a teasing habit of pulling ugly faces, He startled everybody with his frightening grimaces.
In vain they warned and told him what would happen if one day The wind all of a sudden turned and blew the other way. Alas for laughing Joseph, as he pulled a fearful face, The weathercock upon the wall swung gently in its place; The wind had changed; now Joseph, though he tries and tries and tries, Cannot banish from his features this look of pained surprise. —P.M.F.
