RAILWAY THROUGH SQUARE

COMMENT FROM THE BENCH , Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, August 5. Comjnents on the railway facilities in the town were made by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court this morning, when dealing with a car driver who appeared, charged with crossing the railway line in the Square when it was not clear. "The shunting of trains in the Square seems to t> e one of the reasons for the deviation being wanted.” the Magistrate observed. Traffic Was often field up that way, and the whole size of the railway yards appeared to be the trouble. “It should not be necessary,” he said, “to have to hold up traffic in the centre of the town. It is certainly very trying to have goods trains shunting up as far as the monument and stopping there for some time."
