MR. BENNETT’S ATTACKS GROWING RESENTMENT IN CANADA Australian Press Association. Vancouver, August 2. Resentment against the Hon. R. B. Bennett’s attacks on the Australian Treaty is growing stronger daily, and there is a complete cleavage among members of the Conservative Party. It is reported that a large delegation interviewed the Tory leader, and are said to have urged an ultimatum to the Premier of British Columbia (Mr. S. F. Tolmie). Challenges to debate the merits of the Australian and “Sockeye Salmon” treaties are flying thick and fast. Figures published on Friday show that Canada’s exports for the year ended June'3o increased by £147,000,000 compared with the previous year, while the imports increased by £156.000,000. Exports to Australia totalled £20,000,000, an increase of £6.000.000. Exports to New Zealand totalled £18,000,000, an increase of over £6,000,000. POSITION OF LUMBER Australian Press Assn. —United Service. (Rec. August 4, 5.5 p.m.) Victoria (British Columbia), August 3. Addressing a meeting at Port Alberni on Friday night, Mr. Bennett asked why preference had not been granted to lumber from Canada when the Australian Treaty was entered into. Australia was now buying more lumber from the United States than from Canada.
