The vessel, which was inspected by experts at West Hartlepool, is of 9000 tons, with a length of 421 feet. She is unique in so far as she has no alternative device for hand-firing the boilers, which are designed solely to operate on the Brand system of powdered fuel. The main bunkers have a capacity of 2000 tons arranged on the upper deck. A hatch is provided for trimming the coal into the daily service bunker. There are two pulverisers on the stokehold floor convenient to the bunkers for breaking down slack coal. There Is a reserve fuel supply overhead in the stokehold, sufficient for several hours’ steaming with the pulverisers out of action.
