AERIAL TRAVEL IN NEW ZEALAND

COMPANY BEING FORMED SERVICES BETWEEN FOUR CENTRES Dominion Special Service. Auckland, August 2. A company called New Zealand Aerial Services Ltd., with a capital of £250,000, has been formed in Auckland, and will be registered shortly. Already £5O 000 capital of the company has been underwritten by Dominion Brokers Ltd. It is proposed to purchase three triple-engined aeroplanes to carry passengers and goods between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, and give a dally service between Auckland and Rotorua. The directors in Auckland are Messrs. S. I. Crookes, S. J. Harbntt, W. F. Grove. J F. W. Dickson, and D. G. Olglvie. There will be local directors in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, the idea being to make it representative of New Zealand commercial interests. Subsidy Contemplated. It is contemplated that, in jiew of the fact that the Government will not at present undertake an aerial defence force, some arrangement will be made for a subsidy from the Government, as is the practice in most other countries. In time it is probable that there will be an extensive mail service by ’plane, especially between the main centres. It has been felt by the proposed directors that the time is now opportune for an aeroplane service In New Zealand. Australia has in operation five commercial aeroplane companies. In view of the fact that the company has already obtained sufficient capital to go to allotment, prospects are very bright, and under the management of the proposed directors and experts, who are being obtained from England, one may expect shortly to travel from Auckland to Wellington and to Christchurch speedily and comfortably with less risk of accident than if travelling by train or motor-car, while tourists arriving by the Aorangl and the Niagara will be able to visit Rotorua and return the same day to Auckland.
