GIFT OF SCHOLARSHIPS Palmerston North, August 2. When Wallace William Clifford, a labourer, aged 20 years, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court this morning, charged with breaking and entering Mayo’s premises in Maiji Street, on July IS, he was remanded until this day week. A total of 3.64 inches of rain fell in Palmerston North last month. Advice has been received at Massey Agricultural College, from the Masterton Land Trustees, that they intend offering annually three scholarships for courses in agriculture, engineering, or home science. Professor Peren has provided the trustees with a set of suggested regulations to govern the scholarships. In the Gazette, the Governor-General authorises the Manawatu-Oroua Electric Power Board to borrow £lB,OOO, the balance of a loan of £500,000, for a term of 20 years. Mr. G. 11'31050™ has taken full advantage of the College Street School Committee’s permission to conduct boxing classes at the school. Quite a number of boys have interested themselves, and there were 21 present at the school assembly hall last evening. Members of the staff are also assisting Mr. Watchorn.
