INQUIRY COMMITTEE APPOINTED TERMS OF REFERENCE (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, July 31. The Prime Minister, Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, has appointed the following Sub-committee of the Committee of Civil Research to inquire into the cotton industry:—Mr. W. Graham (president of the Board of Trade), chairman ; Mr. A. V. Alexander (First Lord of the Admiralty), Sir Alan Anderson, Mr. Joseph Jones, and Sir William McElntock. The terms of reference will be: To consider and report upon the present conditions and prospects of the cotton industry and make recommendations as to any action which may appear desirable and practicable in order to improve the position of this industry in the markets of the world. Mr. Jones is secretary to the Yorkshire Mill-Owners’ Association, Sir William McLintock is senior partner of Thomson, McLintock, and Co., chartered accountants, and has been a member of the Royal Commission on Income Tax, of the National Debt and Taxation Committee, and the Unemployment Insurance Committee.
