Soviet’s War on Things Sacred.—The photograph shows the chapel of the Iberian Virgin, at Moscow, which, it is reported, has been demolished by order of the Soviet Government. This hitherto highly venerated chapel, with its dome of blue, studded with gold stars, stood at one of the main entrances to Red Square. The picture of the wonder-working Iberian Virgin, in its small sanctuary, was the most famous sacred picture in Moscow. At all hours of the day and night, devout Russians, from prince to peasant, were to be seen crossing themselves at the door of the chapel.
