REPAIRING THE DAMAGE GOOD PROGRESS REPORTED By Telegraph—Presa Aasoeiation. Nelson, July 31. Splendid progress is being made with immediate repair work in the earthquake area under the supervision of Mr. Stringer. The immediate repair work is to make homes habitable and thus enable settlers to return by giving them one fireplace, repairing the water supply, and temporary repairs to serious leaks. A limit of £5O is made on any one home from this fund, but repairs in most eases have far from readied that amount. The township work is being dealt with first owing to the poor access to the valleys until the roads are cleared. There are 69 homes in the township area, of which approximately 16 have been repaired and made habitable, eight are at present receiving attention, four are considered past temporary repairs, while the balance are considered satisfactory for the time being. Most of these homes require further assistance later from the general relief fund, the present work merely making the homes habitable. The Public Works Department is making good progress with wmrk on the roads. A stock track to luitlMfiruia is practically completed. WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB’S DONATION By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, July 31. At the annual meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club to-filght it was decided to donate £lOO to the earthquake relief fund, the president ' remarking that he was sorry the finances would nut permit them to make it £lOOO.
