DANCERS TRAPPED
FIRE IN SYDNEY CABARET WOMEN FAINT FROM SUFFOCATION AMAZING SCENES IN STREETS (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) , Sydney, July 30. Three hundred dancers were trapped for nearly an hour last night, when fire partially destroyed one of the city’s most luxurious pleasure places, the Ambassadors’ Cabaret. The fusing of electric switches in a shoe store next door caused the blaze, which was soon trying the best efforts of the firemen. In the dance-hall women fainted, being nearly suffocated by the thick smoke. Scarcely had the Ambassadors been emptied than the dome crashed in. Amazing scenes were witnessed in the streets, when men carried overwrought women out. The damage is estimated at £100.006 and the block, which is probably the most valuable in Sydney, at one time was threatened.
