FLOOD IN ASSAM
MANY LIVES LOST AND HOUSES SWEPT AWAY Australian Press Association. (Rec. June 19, 8 p.m.) Calcutta, June 19. Owing to the abnormal break of the Monsoon, a devastating flood occurred at Assam. Many villagers perished. In Silchar half of the houses were swept away. Looting Is taking place and the Government is threatening drastic penalties. Villagers saved their lives by climbing into trees till rescued by boats. The Assam Government has appealed to the Bengal Government for help and urgent relief measures.
