Navigators may soon be obtaining sea depths by means of a novel apparatus which sends a sound to the ocean bed and denotes the depth by the time taken to hear it again. This secret device, which is alreadj fitted to most naval vessels, is said to add greatly to the safety of a ship in shallow waters during foggy weather.
