THE BIBLE IN BRITISH DOMINIONS

AN INCREASING RECORD. The report of the British and Foreign Bible Society for the past year demonstrates the substantial assistance that is now given to it by the British Dominions. During the past 25 years the society has been extended throughout the world, and the period under review is distinguished particularly by the great developments in the British Dominions. Both in Canada and Australia big organisations have come into ' eing by a process of federation, and these not only take responsibility for circulating the Scriptures within their own borders but send large contributions towards the cost of the so ciety’s world-wide work. “As the Dominions are loyal to the Motherland." states the report, “so the societies are loyal to the mother society. More and more they are sharing the privilege and the financial burden of distributing God’s Word.” The Canadian Bible Society bas increased its contribution from £3820 to £14,000; Australia from £2OOO to £18.000; and New Zealand from £lOOO to, £7385. During the past year the Bible Society has manifested growth in practically all the countries in which it carries on its work. In Turkey, where the people are learning a simplified script, the Bible Society is sending portions of Scripture in the new form. The record number of 11,399.540 volumes were issued in 1928, which is an increase of 1,462,926 over the number for the previous year.
