WOOL PRICES

LOWER IN LONDON

Dominion Special Service.

Dunedin, June 17.

The latest wool sales reports from London confirm the belief that New Zealand growers who elected to sell their wool in the land of its origin have fared better than their neighbours, who preferred to ship to England and take the chance of the market there from the first of the season. Such has been the experience, and it is now more pronounced than at any time. Reckoning in the costs of transit, the prices obtained in London have been right through lower than those procured In New Zealand. There is also the consideration — of no small consequence to growers—that by selling in New Zealand the returns are quicker.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. (Rec. June 17, 9.45 p.m.) Sydney, June 17. The wool sales were resumed to-day. CRUTCHINGS SALE

BIDDING KEEN, COMPETITION GENERAL.

The first crutehings sale o£ the season was held in Wellington yesterday, with a total offering of 2710 bales. There was a large and fully representative attendance of buyers. , .. . Messrs. Levin and Company report that the offering consisted mainly of crutehings, and there were a few parcels of fleece wool; the latter mostly comprised the straggler portion of clips, but not enough to warrant special quotations, also a small quantity of scouring wools. Bidding was keen, all sections of the trade competing freely for their various requirements, and the firm quitted the whole of their offering, with the exception of a few odd lots. Japanese buyers, Australian mills, and local mills secured the larger proportion of the best crutehings, and local scourers and fellmongers competed freely to procure their usual winter requirements. Merino and. halfbred crutehings were in short supply—in fact, not sufficient to give reliable quotations. Notwithstanding the weaker tone in the markets of the world and''the lower prices ruling In London at the May sales, superior lots of crossbred crutehings sold at 12jd. to 13}d., but the bulk of the offering, free from seed, sold at about 10id. to 12id., whilst! slightly seedv and inferior sorts realised from bd. to 93d., and shabby and very seedy lots at 4d. to 7id., according to the amount of seed showing. — . , .
