Christchurch, June 17. The American trainer. R. B. Plaxico had ap unenviable experience on Saturday morning whep he w as attacked by the pacing stallion Silk Thread, receiving injuries that will keep him confined to his bed for a few flays, Plaxico was driving a horse in a spiky and leading Silk Thread along the Yaldhurst road, when without' a-moment’s warning he rushed Plaxico, seizing him by the leg just above ’ the knee and dragging him from the sulky. - Once he had the trainer down Silk Thread commenced to gavage him, and inflicted severe wounds besides tearing Pffixico’s overcoat and trouser?. A passer-by saw the predicament that th? trajner was in, and beat the stgllipn about the head, but it was some time before be could make him release his grip. Whep beaten off he still had a piece of Plaxico’s wearing apparel ip hi? moutfi, and reared and shook the .clothing in savage fashion, Medical assistance was quickly secured, and Plaxico’? injuries were attended to. They are not regarded as dangerbus. Silk Thread, wfio was imported from America some years ago by Mr. J. R--McKenzie, has been a yery successful performer, and he has given Plaxico the two wins he has gained since coming to New Zealand. Some little time ago Silk Thread sept ope of hi? attendants to bos. pital minus a finger; this, however, was regarded more as an accident than anything else, the mischief being done in one of his playfpl moods. Stallions that have done a lot of racing are not to be trusted too far, and one well-known performer bps b e ?n known to wait f? r months.for an opportunity to “even up” with fiis attendant. It is stated that Plaxico had occasion to u?e disciplinary measures with Silk Thread, and the horse took this opportunity of getting his own back.
